One of the worst calls you can ever receive is learning that someone you care deeply about has been involved in a serious accident. I did not find out about Sheldon’s accident until the following day when I spoke with his boss. Hearing what had happened was absolutely devastating.

The first thing that went through my mind was gratitude. Thank God that Sheldon is still alive. Things could have been so much worse.

Sheldon remains hospitalized and continues to fight through an incredibly difficult recovery. To date, he has undergone five surgeries, with additional surgeries still ahead of him.

His injuries are extensive. Sheldon suffered a torn aorta, approximately 30 broken bones, including a broken hip, broken shoulder, broken arm, broken wrist, and broken left leg. One of his toes may also require amputation. At this time, he is unable to put any weight on his legs and faces a very long road to recovery.

I keep reminding myself that God gives us challenges that we can handle, even when the path ahead seems overwhelming. We are taking things one day at a time and trusting in God's plan.

Sheldon and I have been together for 32 years and married for 26 years. Together, we have raised two amazing children, a 20 year old son and a 12 year old daughter. No matter what life brings, family remains important, and right now our focus is helping Sheldon heal.

Anyone who knows Sheldon knows he is always willing to help others. He has spent much of his life serving and protecting people, both as a retired veteran and through his work in executive security.

Sheldon works with Covered Six and truly enjoys the people he works with and the people he serves. It has been heartwarming to see so many coworkers, friends, and family members reach out, visit, and offer support during this difficult time.

As I write this, it is difficult to ask for help, but the bills are beginning to pile up while Sheldon remains unable to work and focused entirely on recovery.

The funds raised will help with medical expenses, rehabilitation, and everyday living expenses during the long recovery ahead.

Any prayers, support, or sharing of Sheldon’s story would mean more than words can express.
