I never imagined I would be writing a story like this about the woman I love.

On August 22, 2026, Hannah and I were riding our motorcycles home together. I was riding ahead of her when I looked into my rearview mirror and suddenly saw Hannah go down.

The few seconds it took me to turn around felt like the longest and worst seconds of my life. My mind immediately went to the worst possible place. When I reached Hannah and heard her screaming in agony, I started to cry. As horrible as it was hearing her in that much pain, there was also an overwhelming sense of relief—I knew she was alive.

Hannah had been involved in an accident with another vehicle, and her right leg was severely crushed. She was rushed to the hospital and spent three days in the ICU. After an extended hospitalization and rehabilitation, she was finally discharged yesterday.

Hannah has already endured four surgeries. Doctors placed a rod and screws in her femur, rods and screws in her tibia and fibula, and a plate and screws in her ankle. Watching someone you love endure that much pain and undergo surgery after surgery is something I can't adequately put into words. Her road to recovery is going to be long.

Hannah and I have been together for three years, and between us we have six amazing children and four dogs. To me, Hannah is about as close to the perfect woman as you can get. She loves our family fiercely and would do absolutely anything for our children or me. She has a strong moral compass and has always believed in choosing the hard right over the easy wrong, even when doing the right thing is more difficult.

One of the most heartbreaking consequences of this accident involves Hannah's future.

Hannah is an EMT, and caring for others isn't simply a job to her. She loves the people she works with and considers them her second family. She is incredibly grateful for everything her boss and coworkers have done to support her since the accident.

She was also taking the next step toward her dream. Hannah had enrolled in school to become a paramedic. She was excited about advancing her career and continuing a life dedicated to helping people during some of their most frightening moments.

As a result of the severity of her injuries and the long recovery ahead, Hannah has now been told she needs to withdraw from the program. Seeing that dream put on hold because of an accident has been devastating. But anyone who knows Hannah knows how determined she is, and I believe this is a dream she will fight to return to when her body allows her to.

Right now, however, our focus has to be on getting Hannah healthy again. With four surgeries already behind her and extensive rehabilitation ahead, there is still a tremendous amount of uncertainty about when she will be able to return to work and normal life.

Hannah is normally the person helping someone else in an emergency. Now this EMT needs people to rally around her.

That's why we're starting this HelpVy campaign. Funds raised will help with Hannah's medical expenses and our everyday living expenses while she continues healing and working toward regaining her independence.
