My name is Sara Griffith, and my loving boyfriend David Peterson was in a horrible accident that changed our lives in a second.

On January 12, 2026, David was involved in a devastating motorcycle accident in Medford, Oregon. The injuries he suffered were severe and life-altering. He was rushed to the hospital and has been hospitalized ever since. David underwent an intense 12+ hour surgery in Portland, where doctors were forced to amputate his foot and perform extensive reconstructive surgery on his femur. A rod, plate, and multiple screws now run all the way to his knee.

David is currently in a patient rehabilitation center, beginning what doctors have told us will be a long and uncertain road to recovery. Because of the rod in his leg, he cannot bend his knee, and at this point, there’s no certainty that he will ever regain that ability.

Before this accident, David loved his work as a tattoo artist. Creating art wasn’t just his job—it was his passion and how he supported his family. Right now, he doesn’t know if or when he’ll be able to return to work, and that uncertainty weighs heavily on him every day.

David is also a proud father of seven children, and one of them, Justine, lives with him. Being there for his kids means everything to him, and it’s been incredibly hard for him to be away from them while he remains in the hospital and rehab.
