My name is Jack McCann, and my good friend Will Dey was in a terrible accident just over a week ago that has completely changed his life.

Just over a week ago, Will was riding his dad’s pride and joy—a 1991 Harley-Davidson Sportster chopper, his father’s very first Harley—when everything changed in an instant.

Will was traveling northbound on Redondo Avenue in Long Beach, California, approaching the intersection at East Third Street, when he entered the intersection on a green light. Another vehicle was stopped in the roadway, possibly after making an illegal turn. Will tried to avoid the car by moving into the left lane, but there was not enough room, and he struck the vehicle while trying to prevent a worse collision.

The impact was devastating. William lost consciousness and woke up at the scene with severe injuries. Most alarming, blunt force trauma to his abdomen caused internal bleeding from a ruptured artery—an injury that was difficult to detect and could have easily been fatal. He required emergency abdominal surgery and now has approximately 18 staples. In addition, he suffered a compound fracture of his right tibia and fibula, with the bone breaking through the skin, requiring immediate surgery.

Will is incredibly lucky to be alive.

Today, Will is confined to a wheelchair and faces a long, painful road to recovery. He is deeply grateful that his mom is able to be home caring for him during this time, but the emotional and financial strain has been overwhelming.

Medical bills are already piling up and rising quickly. Although Will has health insurance, he has a high deductible, and he is unable to work while recovering. Funds raised will go directly toward medical expenses, rehabilitation, and everyday living costs as he focuses on healing.

This accident happened suddenly and without warning, and Will’s life was turned upside down in seconds. Any amount you’re able to give will make a real difference during this incredibly difficult time.
