My name is Kenneth Hughes, and I’m writing this for my great friend, Sergio Ponce.

On Sunday, April 12th, Sergio and I were riding our motorcycles together on the way to his mom’s house — just a normal day between friends.

Then everything changed.

There is no worse feeling than seeing your friend lying on the ground unconscious after an accident. It’s a moment I will never forget.

I called for help, and the ambulance arrived and rushed Sergio to the hospital, where he remained for six days.

When Sergio woke up the next morning, he didn’t even know what had happened.

Sergio suffered head trauma, at least two fractured ribs, a collapsed lung, a fractured left cheekbone, a broken collarbone, and light cerebral bleeding. His injuries were serious, and we are incredibly grateful that he is still here.

Sergio is a loving husband and a proud father to his three daughters, who mean everything to him.

He works as a driver for FedEx, and he genuinely loves what he does — from the people he works with to the customers he serves every day.

Right now, everything has been put on hold.

Sergio will be out of work for a while, and without health insurance, the weight of medical bills and everyday living expenses is overwhelming.

He has always been someone who shows up for others without hesitation.

Now, he needs us.
