My name is Sylvia Hoyos, and I am organizing this campaign for my brother, Roy Lira.

On the morning of September 22, 2026, Roy was involved in a serious motorcycle accident in Fort Worth while on his way to work.

At first, I was told that he had broken his ankle. I thought I would go to the hospital, wait for them to put a cast on him, and bring my brother home.

When I arrived, I quickly realized it was much more serious.

Roy suffered a broken left wrist, a broken left pinky, a fractured finger on his right hand, fractured skull and devastating injuries to his ankle. His pinky required surgery, and doctors performed major surgery on his ankle using a rod and pins.

Thankfully, doctors have told us there is no brain injury.

Right now, we are praying that his ankle continues to heal without infection. His doctors have done everything they can to save his foot. If serious complications develop, additional surgery could be necessary, and amputation remains a possibility we are desperately hoping to avoid. 

Roy is one of the hardest working people I know. He does electrical work and works independently doing masonry. Both jobs require him to be on his feet and use his hands every day.

He loves his work, the people he works with, and being able to provide for himself.

Doctors expect Roy off work for at least three to four months, possibly longer.

Funds raised through HelpVy will help with Roy’s medical and everyday living expenses while he heals and works toward rebuilding his life.
