My name is Margaret Elliston, and I am organizing this HelpVy crowdfunding campaign for my son, John Michael Chavez.

It is the worst call a mother can ever receive when Michael’s girlfriend called to tell me that he had been in a serious motorcycle accident.

We were told that a vehicle pulling a food trailer pulled out in front of Michael, causing the collision. In an instant, his life changed forever.

Michael was first admitted to Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, New Mexico, before being medivaced to University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas, where he remains in the ICU fighting through severe injuries and a very long recovery ahead.

Michael suffered a brain bleed, hematomas to his head and back, a broken left arm, and a broken collarbone. He has already undergone surgery on his left arm, and doctors have told us he will need another surgery once the swelling goes down.

As his mother, I can honestly say Michael is one of the most amazing, hardworking, and protective sons anyone could ask for. He calls me all the time just to make sure I am doing okay. He is the type of person who would truly give the shirt off his back to help someone else. If anyone is stranded on the side of the road, Michael is always the first person there to help.

Michael loves riding motorcycles with his friends and family, and he works hard as an HVAC technician.

As a result of his injuries, he will be unable to work for a long time while he focuses on recovery.

The medical expenses, travel, and accommodations while staying in Lubbock, Texas are creating additional financial stress for our family during this difficult time.
