I will never forget the moment my grandmother called me and told me that my dad, Joshua, had been in a serious motorcycle accident. It's the kind of phone call you never expect to receive and never want to receive. As soon as I heard what had happened, I left work and rushed to the hospital to be by his side.

My dad's accident happened on August 27, 2026, in Forest Lake, Minnesota. He was riding his motorcycle east on Broadway when the accident occurred. What he remembers is limited, but he was told that a FedEx truck clipped the right side of his motorcycle. The impact left my dad with some very serious injuries, including a shattered right ankle, his right shin broken in six places, and road rash on his left elbow and left knee.

My dad spent seven days in the hospital and was just released. We are incredibly thankful to have him out of the hospital, but coming home doesn't mean this is over. His injuries are serious, and he has a long recovery ahead of him. Everyday things that most of us don't think twice about are now going to be difficult as his body heals and he works toward getting back on his feet.

I'm Joshua's youngest daughter, and when I think about my dad, I think about someone who is loving, hardworking, silly, and always there when his family needs him. I'm lucky to share him with my two siblings, and all three of us know how much our dad loves us. Even during difficult times, he has a way of making us laugh. That's just who my dad is.

My dad is also an incredibly hard worker. He is a lead in building fire trucks, something I think says a lot about him. He takes pride in his work and truly loves his job and the people he works alongside. Now, because of the injuries from this accident, he is going to be away from the work he enjoys while he focuses on recovering.

Giving back to others has also been important to my dad. In the past, he has volunteered through church organizations, something he really enjoyed doing. He had been hoping to get involved with volunteering again. Unfortunately, this accident has changed his immediate plans. For now, instead of working and helping others, my dad has to put his energy into healing.

As his daughter, it's difficult seeing someone who has always been there for us suddenly be the person who needs support. We don't know exactly what the coming weeks and months will bring, but we do know that his recovery is going to take time. During that time, the medical expenses and everyday bills don't simply stop.

That's why we're starting this HelpVy campaign. The money raised will help with my dad's medical expenses and everyday living expenses while he recovers. Our hope is to take some of the financial pressure off him so he can concentrate on healing and eventually getting back to his family, his job, and the life he loves.
