Law Tigers and Lonna Van Horne are campaign organizers for Joe and Julianna Baxter.
Hi everyone, my name is Lonna Van Horne, and my dear son Joseph and his loving wife Julianna were in a terrible motorcycle accident this past Friday that has changed their lives forever.
On February 27th, Joe was riding his motorcycle with Julianna on the back as they entered an intersection in Aurora, Colorado. An oncoming driver with a flashing yellow arrow tried to beat the light without slowing down and broadsided their motorcycle. In an instant, everything changed. Police responded and cited the other driver at fault, but the damage to Joe and Julianna had already been done.
Both of them are still in the hospital.
Joe’s injuries are devastating. He suffered broken tibia and fibula bones, and his foot lost circulation for nearly three hours before surgeons could operate. He had an open compound fracture in his left big toe, significant muscle and nerve damage in his left leg, a broken scapula, a broken elbow, and a head impact. Doctors performed emergency surgery to restore circulation, but he remains at high risk due to the severity of the vascular damage. There is even concern about possible amputation depending on how his leg heals. He faces a long hospitalization and months of painful rehabilitation.
Julianna also sustained serious injuries. The ligaments in her knee were torn away, and she has severe damage to her left leg. Doctors believe she will likely need reconstructive surgery, and possibly even a knee replacement in the future. Her mobility will be limited for quite some time, and her recovery will not be easy.
Joe has contract work as a maintenance technician with the Mormon churches for the past three years. He truly loves his job and the people he meets through his work. He has always been the kind of man who shows up when someone needs help — dependable, hardworking, and generous with his time.
Julianna works as a receptionist in the mental health field. She cares deeply about the people she works with and the patients she sees every day. She has a gentle spirit and a compassionate heart.
Together, they are raising three beautiful children, with two still living at home. They are wonderful parents — kind, patient, and always putting their family first. They are the type of people who are always willing to help others in times of need.
Now they are the ones who need help.
With both of them hospitalized and facing multiple surgeries, extensive recovery, and months away from work, the financial strain is overwhelming. Bills will continue to come in, and their children still need stability and care during this incredibly difficult time.
We are asking for support to help cover living expenses and the many unexpected costs that come with such serious injuries. This will be a long road to recovery for both Joe and Julianna, and any help will make a meaningful difference for their family.
If you are able, please consider donating and sharing their story. Most importantly, please keep Joe, Julianna, and their children in your thoughts and prayers as they begin this long journey toward healing.
