Hi, my name is Isabel Licona, and just days before Christmas, my boyfriend, Diego Maynes, was involved in a terrible accident that changed our lives in a way we never could have imagined. On December 15, Diego was driving home when another driver suddenly turned directly into his path. The impact was so violent that Diego was thrown into the air before crashing back onto the pavement. In a matter of seconds, everything we knew as “normal” was gone.

Diego was rushed by ambulance to the hospital, where he spent four long days fighting through pain and shock. Doctors discovered that his left upper arm was shattered in three places, requiring a six-hour surgery and ten screws to put it back together. He also suffered two fractures in his right foot, nerve damage that causes numbness from his lower back to behind his knee, painful road rash, bruising, and ongoing back pain. Every single day since the accident has been both a physical and emotional battle.

Before this accident, Diego was a hardworking diesel engine mechanic who genuinely loved what he did. He loved his coworkers, took pride in his work, and never hesitated to help anyone who needed it. Diego has always been someone others could count on — the first to show up, the first to offer support, and the last to ever ask for anything in return. Doctors have now told us he will be unable to work for at least 12 weeks while his body heals.

As we face this unexpected journey, we are humbly asking for help to support Diego during his recovery. The funds raised will go toward medical bills and everyday living expenses, helping relieve the financial burden so Diego can focus on healing instead of worrying about how we will make it through. Diego has spent his life helping others, and now, with hope in our hearts, we are asking for help in returning that kindness to him.
