For the past 9 years, the Hawkins family, Dave and Melissa, who recently celebrated 34 years of marriage, along with their son Devin, his wife Megan, and now the light of their lives, granddaughter Marleigh, have traveled from their home in Virginia to attend Myrtle Beach Bike Week as their annual family vacation.

As longtime Harley enthusiasts, this tradition has always been about more than motorcycles. It has been about family, memories, and spending time together.

This year’s trip was especially meaningful as the family was still grieving the sudden loss of their brother, brother in law, uncle, and great uncle, Jaimie Treadway, just three months earlier. Bike Week 2026 was meant to be a time of healing for the family.

On May 15th, while riding along the Myrtle Beach strand with his family, Dave’s motorcycle was struck by a vehicle at an intersection. Melissa witnessed the entire accident unfold in front of her.

Dave was rushed to Grand Strand Medical Center, where he remains in the ICU being treated for a severe brain injury, an orbital fracture to the roof of his mouth, and extensive road rash. At this time, he has still not regained consciousness, and the family continues praying every day for him to wake up.

Melissa says that whenever she closes her eyes, she still hears the crash and sees Dave being thrown through the air. Watching him lying so still in the ICU has been one of the hardest things she has ever experienced.

Dave is a hardworking mechanic who loves working on cars and motorcycles and would do absolutely anything for anyone.

Right now, the family is facing lost income, hotel costs, meals, travel expenses, and growing medical expenses while remaining by Dave’s bedside in South Carolina.
