Hi everyone, my name is Nicolette, and my husband, Dan, was involved in a serious motorcycle accident recently.

One of the worst calls a wife can ever receive happened in a way I'll never forget.

As Dan was being transported by ambulance to the hospital, he accidentally pocket-dialed me. I answered expecting to hear his voice, but instead I heard the entire conversation between him and the paramedics. Looking back, we can laugh about the accidental phone call, but in that moment, it was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life.

Dan spent seven days in the hospital before being transferred to a rehabilitation center, where he spent another seven days. He was finally able to come home this past Monday, but his recovery is just beginning.

His injuries include multiple broken ribs, a flail chest segment, a broken collarbone, a fractured scapula, and a collapsed lung. Every movement is painful, and the road to recovery will be long.

Dan is one of the hardest-working and most caring people I know. He recently retired from a career in facility maintenance.   He also proudly served our country as a United States Marine during Operation Desert Storm, but retirement didn't slow him down. He continued working part-time as a custodian at the local high school, a job he truly enjoyed because of the people he worked with and the students he saw every day.

To our family, Dan is an incredible husband, father, and the best "Papa" our grandson could ever ask for. He is always the first person to help someone else and the last person to ask for help himself.

Together, we are also proud members of the Saint Paul Winter Carnival Vulcans, an organization that has faithfully served Saint Paul and surrounding communities for decades through volunteerism, civic pride, and countless charitable events.

The funds raised will help with medical expenses and everyday living expenses while Dan focuses on healing.
