On September 9, 2026, I went out for a ride in Portland to enjoy the nice weather.

That evening, I was involved in a serious accident that left me injured and dealing with pain throughout my body.

At first, adrenaline took over. I was able to get home, clean my wounds, and lie down.

Then the pain really began.

Within a couple of hours, I told my wife, Amy, that I needed to go to the hospital. I was hurting so badly that it took me about 45 minutes just to make it downstairs and out to the car, even with crutches.

At the hospital, doctors performed X rays and CT scans to evaluate my injuries.

I suffered a broken toe, an injured right thumb, pain and possible damage in my right shoulder, road rash, and significant bruising and pain throughout my arms, shoulders, back, hips, and legs. I am still waiting for follow up care to determine whether there is additional damage to my shoulder and thumb.

I have worked as a mechanic for 19 years. After the accident, I used two weeks of vacation time to recover.

But I could not afford to remain off work.

I need to work a certain number of hours to maintain the health insurance that covers my family, so I made the difficult decision to return even though I am still hurting.

Amy and I have been together for 10 years and married for nearly two. I am also the father of three children and grandfather of two.

Right now, my biggest concern is the medical expense created by this accident. I have already received a bill of approximately $14,000, and I am waiting to find out what my personal insurance will ultimately cover.

I simply need help with the medical bills that are now coming in.
