This past Saturday, September 26^th, I received the kind of phone call no parent ever wants to receive. The hospital called to tell me that my son, Collin, had been involved in a serious accident.

He is still in the hospital, and the road ahead is going to be a long one.

Collin suffered two fractures to his pelvis, along with a dislocated elbow and a fractured wrist. His injuries were severe enough to require two surgeries, with metal plates and screws used to repair the damage. He is also dealing with painful road rash.

As his father, it is difficult to see him going through this.

Collin has always been a hard working construction worker, and his job depends on being physically strong and able to use his entire body. With injuries this serious, returning to construction is not going to happen anytime soon. His recovery could take six months to a year.

But what I want people to know most is the kind of person Collin is.

He has a soft heart and will help just about anybody. I remember blowing out two tires on my truck and ending up in a dangerous situation. Within minutes, Collin was there because his first concern was making sure I was okay.

That is who my son is.

He is the first person to help and the last person to ask for help.

Collin is the middle of three brothers, and our family means everything to him. We lost his mother in 2015, so our family has already been through some difficult times together. Now we are standing beside Collin as he begins another difficult journey.

Funds raised through HelpVy will help with Collin’s medical and everyday living expenses while he heals and is unable to work.
