My name is Sarah Simpson Brewer and our lives have been completely turned upside down for our family.

My husband Brett was riding his motorcycle down Hwy 169 on his way home to pick up his helmet before collecting our kids from school. He always wears his helmet when the kids ride with him to set a good example. Tragically, a driver pulled out to pass several vehicles and claimed she didn’t see Brett. She cut directly in front of him, giving him no time to react. Brett collided with her car, was thrown up over her windshield, onto the the roof, and that impact split the palate of his mouth and cracked open his skull. 

A good Samaritan stopped and saved his life by applying a tourniquet to slow the bleeding from his nearly severed calf. Brett was airlifted to Deer Valley Trauma, where doctors discovered a brain bleed in three areas, a broken tibia, fibula, and ankle. He received 2½ units of blood and underwent a total of 6 surgeries so far—with more ahead. He’s had a skin graft, lost hearing in one ear, and now has impaired vision in one eye. After five days in a medically induced coma, Brett is at EntireCare Rehab, where he’s now relearning how to walk. He will need to wear a leg brace for life.

Our children—Jessie, who is 10 and Novalina who is 12 are trying to be brave through all of this but it has taken the innocence out of what should be their summer break from school. 

Brett is unable to work, and I simply don’t make enough to cover medical costs, rehab, and everyday needs for our family. Its the hardest thing to ask family and friends for financial help but we are really in an emergency situation.
