Hi, my name is Anguel Rodriguez, and I'm reaching out because I'm in a situation I never expected to be in — unable to work, struggling to cover basic living expenses, and trying to heal from injuries sustained in a recent accident. 

I was on my way to work, just a regular morning commute, when a white SUV suddenly merged into my lane and slammed into the left side of my motorcycle. The impact knocked my bike out from under me and sent me crashing to the ground. In a matter of seconds, everything changed.

I work as a shipper and receiver. It's physical work. I'm on my feet all day, lifting, loading, and moving. I've always been proud of the fact that I show up and put in the work. But right now, I can barely walk.

When I hit the ground, my left knee swelled badly and suffered serious road rash. The pain made it nearly impossible to put weight on my leg. I also struck my head and face on the pavement. I needed 3 stitches on my top lip, 4 stitches on my bottom lip, and 1 stitch on my forehead. The injuries left me bedridden in the days following the accident, unable to care for myself the way I normally would, let alone return to work.

This is not who I am. I'm someone who stays active and gives back. My girlfriend and I regularly volunteer at Sanctuary Mixtape, an animal sanctuary near Sacramento, California, because we believe in showing up for those who can't speak for themselves. Right now, I'm the one who needs a little help.

The bills don't stop just because I can't work. Rent, groceries, utilities, they keep coming.
