On Friday, August 28, 2026, my phone alerted me through Life360 that my husband, Ian, had been in an accident.
My heart dropped.
I immediately tried calling him, but Ian was going in and out of consciousness and couldn't really communicate with me. I kept trying until finally, a paramedic in the ambulance answered his phone.
They told me they were taking Ian to Bay Medical in Panama City, Florida.
It was one of the worst feelings I've ever experienced.
Ian had been involved in a serious motorcycle accident while riding his 2007 Kawasaki ZX 6R. He suffered a fractured left humerus, a broken fifth metacarpal in his right hand, a laceration to his right forearm, and significant road rash.
As frightening as his injuries are, we also recognize how fortunate we are.
This accident could have been so much worse, and I'm incredibly thankful Ian is still here with me.
Ian and I have built a wonderful life together. This past April, we celebrated our fourth wedding anniversary, and anyone who knows my husband knows exactly what kind of man he is.
Ian has a heart of gold.
He is the person who will be the first one there when somebody needs help and the last person who would ever ask for that same help in return. He's also a great mechanic, and if a family member, friend, or anyone he knows is having trouble with their vehicle, Ian is always willing to lend a hand and help get them back on the road. That's simply the kind of man he is.
Even agreeing to launch this HelpVy campaign has been difficult for him. Asking people for financial support simply isn't who Ian is.
Service to others has also been a significant part of Ian's life.
Ian is a retired Afghanistan combat veteran who served our country overseas. After his military service, that commitment to protecting and helping others continued into civilian life. Today, Ian works in security, a job that requires him to be physically capable and dependable.
As a result of his injuries, Ian is currently unable to work, and we don't yet know when his doctors will clear him to return.
That's where the reality of this accident becomes even more difficult.
The bills don't stop because someone gets hurt.
While Ian concentrates on healing, we are facing medical costs along with the everyday expenses that continue whether he's working or not.
For a man who has spent so much of his life being strong for other people, being the one who needs help now isn't easy.
But sometimes even the strongest people need others to stand beside them.
The funds raised through this campaign will help with Ian's medical expenses and our everyday living expenses while he recovers and works toward getting back on his feet and returning to work.
If you are able to donate, we would be incredibly grateful. If you aren't in a position to give, sharing Ian's story with your friends, family, and community would mean just as much to us.
Most importantly, I'm grateful that I still have my husband beside me.
We've been reminded just how quickly life can change. Now our focus is on Ian's recovery and getting him back to the life he loves.
Thank you for standing beside Ian and me during this difficult chapter of our lives.
